You are likely aware of sales tax holidays such as the recent annual Florida Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday or the upcoming Back To School Sales Tax Holiday that runs from July 24th through August 6th. In fact, Florida will also run another Back To School Sales Tax Holiday from January 1st through 14th, 2024. However, you may not know about Florida’s latest tax holiday that recently rolled out. Known as the ENERGY STAR® Sales Tax Holiday, Florida consumers can purchase qualifying ENERGY STAR® appliances exempt from tax from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.
Sales tax eligible items
First and foremost, this tax holiday applies only to appliances that carry an Energy Star rating, which means its designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy as meeting or exceeding each agency’s requirements under the Energy Star program. If a particular appliance does not include the Energy Star label, then you can expect to pay sales tax on the item. This exemption does not apply when the new Energy Star appliance is purchased for trade, business or resale, and it doesn’t apply to appliance rentals. Eligible items for this program include:
- Clothes dryer with a sales price of $1,500 or less
- Refrigerator or combination refrigerator/freezer with a sales price of $4,500 or less
- Washing machine with a sales price of $1,500 or less
- Water heater with a sales price of $1,500 or less
