Fun facts about the greatest state in the country!

With the popularity of the state of Florida reaching record levels over the past few years, we thought we’d share some fun facts about our favorite state in the country. Did you know? Florida joined the United States of America in 1845 as it’s 27th state. Subsequently, the state of Florida turned 177 years old on March 3, 2022. Interestingly, the United States acquired Florida from Spain in 1819, although it wasn’t transferred until 1821.

With a land area of 53,633.7 square miles and a water area of 12,106.1 square miles, Florida is the 22nd largest state by area. This makes the state 22% water.

2020 Census Findings

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the state had a population of 21,538,187 on April 1, 2020. This equated to a 14.6% increases from the previous census. Of course, we have seen significant population growth in Florida since 2020 as well. Some other interesting findings from the 2020 U.S. Census Bureau are as follows:

  • Percentage of Floridians with at least a bachelor’s degree = 30.7%
  • Percentage of the labor force employed = 56.2%
  • Total number of housing units = 9,865,350

Summary

Given the timing of the last U.S. census being in April of 2020, it is safe to say that these numbers are likely much different now. Since the beginning of the pandemic, it has been well documented that many Americans have been relocating to The Sunshine State. Needless to say, this has resulted in skyrocketing home prices and record-level competition for home buyers. Of course, why wouldn’t anyone want to live in paradise?
