Remote working environments should fuel South Florida real estate for years

Remote working environments and real estate
The virtual workplace is driving the South Florida real estate market.

Known as The Great Reshuffling, many Americans have opted to move during the pandemic. A big reason for this is the flexibility offered by remote working environments. In efforts to minimize the spread of COVID-19, many companies have adapted to either a fully remote working environment or a hybrid environment that limits the number of people in the office at any given time. Needless to say, this has resulted in many people relocating to larger homes in the suburbs that offer more space, but may be further away from the office.

Remote working environments are here to stay

For many companies throughout the country, the pandemic has taught them an important lesson: Allowing your workforce to work from home can result in equal if not greater productivity while also reducing overhead costs. Of course, the type of business or service offered greatly impacts the feasibility of such a model. Furthermore, it seems as though the workforce has certainly embraced this new model as well:

  • 39% of the U.S. workforce does not know whether or not they will return to the office, remain remote, or have a hybrid situation
  • 35% of the U.S. workforce states that the uncertainty is impacting their life decisions
  • 84% of the U.S. workforce prefers to work remotely at least a few days a week
  • 44% of the U.S. workforce wants to work remotely 100% of the time

Summary

Eighteen months into the remote working environment, many Americans have grown accustomed to this new way of life. With the added flexibility, many in the virtual workforce feel that they have more control over their lives. In fact, many have even stated that if their employer forces them to go back into the office, they will instead find another job. With commute times to the office being less of a factor now, we have seen homes located 60 – 90 minutes away from big cities benefit the most. As more Americans desire larger homes with more privacy, these suburbs have quickly become in high demand.

Perhaps no other location throughout the country has benefited more from this shift to remote working than South Florida. In fact, Miami, FL was recently ranked as the most popular U.S. migration destination. This new way of working has now allowed people from all over the country relocate to the tax-friendly state of Florida. After all, why not move to paradise and save money at the same time?
