If you have read some of our previous articles on this blog, then you are well aware of some of the recent trends in real estate this past year. With Americans spending more time at home during the pandemic, perhaps the biggest trend has been the desire for more space. This has led many homeowners to search for larger homes with more rooms for offices, classrooms, or home gyms. However, not all homeowners are in a position to be able to move to or rent/buy a larger home. Therefore, this article focuses on some helpful tips to maximize the small space that you may currently have.
Maximize your space
Needless to say, when you are living a small apartment or condo it is critical that you maximize every square inch that you can. Here are a few ideas that may help in this:
- Hang any items that you can: We often focus on floor space as the ultimate indicator for storage space. With this said, it is important to remember that there is also air space that we may be able to take advantage of. Think about hanging your pans, coffee cups and cooking utensils over the kitchen counter. This allows easy access to these items without crowding your cupboard space.
- Utilize corner desks: Oftentimes, small condos or apartments have great corner spaces that go unutilized. A quick measurement of the space followed by a trip to your local furniture or office supply store can be the solution for an unused corner space.
- Use a foldable bed: Murphy beds have gained in popularity in recent years. Furthermore, they can be a great solution for any bedroom where space is limited. In addition, this is also a way to make any room multi-functional. Think a bedroom at night and an office during the day.
- Purchase exposed leg furniture: Perhaps the most commonly purchased exposed leg furniture is a bed frame. The benefit of these types of furnishings is that they open up storage space underneath. Oftentimes, storage containers or bins are utilized for items that are not utilized every day. These bins can then be stored underneath a bed frame and out of sight. This area can be a great spot for items such as holiday decorations, etc…
Summary
The recent surge in demand for real estate has been largely due to the desire for more space. With this said, purchasing or renting a larger property is not always an option for many Americans. Therefore, it is important that space-saving tricks are implemented wherever possible. Additionally, showcasing multi-functional rooms in homes for sale has also been a successful tactic in the current real estate market.
